Why I choose Chalice Dreamer for the name of my website.

What “Chalice” meant to the 17th century Eucharist was as a vessel for holding an offering of communion with “GOD”, the Ultimate Creator, and mother earth, father sky.

A potion being offered as a reminder that life is sacred. I am not a Christian so the historical attributes towards a Chalice are more spiritual than religions for me.

Chalice as defined in the dictionary as a cup or goblet shaped blossom, which you will see reoccurring in my work. It is also defined as a vessel to hold wine, which ironically I once was but not today. Another definition is a cup to hold spirit, which I consider myself to be.

The word "holy" came up a few times in definitions in relation to the Chalice. I don't consider myself to be “holy” but aspire to that which is of high moral fiber, respectful of what is revered. I revere art and its expression. To be holy means to belong to Divine Power. I surrender myself to it but am I holy because of it? I don't think so, I am human but for me creating artistically is what I am here to do. I believe that the world is a free-will zone, so it is what I choose.

The Chalice also refers to something mythical. A sought after substance or sacred object, containing hidden meaning, which is what I do with my art; insert hidden and sometimes obvious meaning. In the search for the Holy Grail, the item sought is a Chalice. An object of prolonged endeavor is what a chalice represents.

Chalice is not only found in medieval legend but was also used in the last supper when Christ offered up himself as a sacrifice. I submit myself to the artist process and hope that spirit leads and I get what I get and I accept it is what it is. Quests, endeavors and giving one's self over to one's passion, this is what the Chalice represents to me plus I really like it's shape. Shape is important; color is important to an artist. Juxtaposition of shapes, colors and composition, these are important elements to the art of painting.

Now, Dreamer…

I am a dreamer, I dream of peace, love and everlasting existence of a supreme being that doesn't control our lives but gives us freedom to choose and in choosing we live with the consequences of our actions, it's that simple.  I believe I was born of spirit and live in it and can choose to be apart of it or not.

A dreamscape is a dreamlike scene with surreal qualities expressing subconscious imagery. Beyond realism, incongruous with reality as we are told it is, impressions, emotions, expressionism is all a dream made real by the artist. That is what I try to do. I dream of painting and then I paint my dreams.

Chalice dreamer is a visionary, an idealist who dreams of a holy (whole) and forgiving life without expectation of punishment, banishment or cruelty. I love the natural world and hope to express it in some small way in my art whether it is the shape of a flower or a face. I love fantasy art and hope to produce it. Some say I am not realistic in my hopes and expectations but I also see too many people compromise their dreams for what they believe reality dictates. I say, we co-create our lives with “GOD”.

What is and who is God? Well that is for you to decide. It surely isn't my place to tell you. I just want to be able to create my own life and my own art without it being dictated to by some authority. There is no higher authority than God. I don't even know who or what God is but I still believe. Is this a tangent? Well, what isn't?

Bottom line:

Quests, endeavors and giving one's self over to one's passion, this is what the Chalice represents to me.
